Lucident is a used car marketplace. Sellers range from single traders to groups with dozens of rooftops, and every one of them photographed cars their own way.

The problem

A search results page pulled thirty cars from thirty different sellers. One shot on a wet forecourt, one in a dim hall, one cropped too tight, three with a competitor banner in the background. The page read as untidy, and untidy reads as untrustworthy.

Lucident had tried image guidelines for sellers. Compliance sat around a third, and enforcing it cost more support time than it saved.

What changed

Instead of policing seller photos, Lucident now requests a rendered image per vehicle and uses the seller photo as a secondary gallery item.

  • Vehicle resolved by VIN, so trim and color match the actual car.
  • Transparent cut-outs for the results grid, so cards never letterbox.
  • Grounded shadows on the detail page, where the car should feel present.
  • Seller photos kept, moved behind the rendered hero.

The result

Rollout took three weeks, most of it spent mapping the existing catalog. Sellers were not asked to change anything.

The clearest signal was in the grid: visitors scroll further before they stop, and the click through from results to detail page moved up in every vehicle category.

Our sellers upload what they upload. Now the page looks the same no matter who listed the car.
